Abstract

The article studies the influence on the labour force composition on the productivity of French fruit and vegetable farms. We use a panel drawn from the FADN data (1995-2006). We show that family is less productive than wage labour even when controlling for seasonal differences in labour productivity. Moreover, permanent wage labour turns out to be less productive than seasonal wage labour. We discuss the results by highlighting specific forms of seasonal wage labour.
