Abstract

From a dialogue with the "corporate philosopher" of a French industrial group, this article aims at understanding of what can consist today a function claiming to be philosophic in a company. The dialogue of two researchers in management with a "corporate philosopher" tries to understand utility, but also ambiguities in the identity of the philosopher in a company. The "corporate philosopher" must meet the requirements of both telling the truth and satisfying his employer. He thus turns out to be "a strange animal", simultaneously a consultant, coach and sophist, manipulated and manipulator. As a result, he seems to be rather similar to the "horsefly" described by Socrate in his Apology, sparking his interlocutors' attention to hold them awakened.
