Abstract

Stockés dans des décharges, éparpillés à la surface des océans ou dispersés en particules invisibles dans l'atmosphère, les déchets sont désormais des traces indélébiles de notre présence sur terre autant que des symptômes de la crise du monde contemporain. Après les avoir enfouis et brûlés, il est devenu impératif de les réduire, de les réutiliser, de les recycler. À l'heure de l'économie circulaire, cette promesse d'un monde sans restes rappelle un mensonge de la tribu Chagga, évoqué par l'anthropologue Mary Douglas : les mâles adultes de cette tribu affirment ne jamais déféquer ! De même, ce livre montre que la quête de pureté et de maîtrise technicienne du déchet dans nos sociétés industrielles fabrique un aveuglement collectif. Il raconte comment Homo detritus, face cachée d'Homo œconomicus, a cru sauver la planète en "bien jetant". Un livre fort sur les impasses des approches "gestionnaires" de notre société du déchet.
