Abstract

Cet article analyse les représentations du comptable dans les comics américains de 1938 à 2016. L'enjeu est de saisir les transformations d'un personnage dans l'un des fleurons de la culture populaire américaine et de les confronter aux études existantes. Cet article se démarque toutefois de ces derniers en étudiant aussi bien les aspects figuratifs que narratifs. S'il ressort que les traits physiques du comptable restent encore caricaturaux, son rôle dans les récits a suivi une progression constante pour passer du sous-homme au surhomme, révélant la perception de l'importance prise par ce professionnel et la comptabilité dans la société moderne.
