Abstract

Afin de revaloriser son image auprès du grand public, la profession comptable a engagé de nombreuses campagnes de communication visant à véhiculer une image plus moderne et engageante de ses membres (Daly et Schuler 1998 ; Ewing et al. 2001 ; Jeacle 2008 ; Picard et al. 2013). En filigrane, l'enjeu est de faire oublier le stéréotype selon lequel les professionnels de la comptabilité seraient des « personnes grises portant des costumes gris » (Ewing et al. 2001, p. 24), des « compteurs de haricots » uniquement préoccupés par la précision et la forme, méthodiques, prudents, ennuyeux et sans joie (Friedman et Lyne 2001, p. 423), des professionnels dotés d'une faible compréhension du monde des affaires, réduisant la comptabilité à un processus mécanique déconnecté des réalités de l'organisation (Friedman et Lyne 1997), des individus dont le caractère et le comportement se confondent avec les qualités nécessitées par la profession de comptable (Bougen 1994).
