Abstract

By studying the concrete practices of consumers using leboncoin.fr, this research identifies the methods they use in order to achieve a successful transaction. In this perspective, we argue that phenomena which have been identified by prior researches also imply some kind of work in order to use the platform. Using an ethnomethodological approach, this research analyses the implicit properties and practical consequences of the way users build and negotiate offers with their exchange partners. Finally, we discuss the implications of these mechanisms in terms of matching between buyers and sellers. By doing so, we raise the issue of the access conditions of markets which are often said to belong to a sharing economy.
