Abstract

This note reexamines the relation between fiscal corruption and inflation. In an endogenous growth model with money, we highlight the existence of a threshold effect in the corruption-inflation nexus. Contrary to the existing literature, we show that it is only above a certain threshold of corruption that the impact of corruption on inflation is positive. Below this threshold, the effect of corruption on inflation is negative. This effect is amplified as the tax rate increases.
