Determinants of organizational Open Source adoption

Abstract

Open Source appeared in the software industry in the early 1980s under the name "free software" (Von Hippel, 2001). The objective of the research is to investigate the role of determinants to Open Source Adoption on Open Source usage by non software organizations. The relationships are tested by exploratory structural equation modelling on perception-based measures with managers on a sample of 155 organizations by using R, an Open Source language and environment for statistics, and XLStat for PLS approach. When considered one by one, all determinants impact Open Source internal Adoption, when considered all together, the positive determinant "Efficiency" and the negative determinant "Offer constraints" best explain Open Source adoption.
