Abstract

Det är en kliché att påstå att vi lever i osäkra tider. Den väx-an­de koncentrationen av rikedom bland små delar av befolkningen, fallande förtroende för demokratiska institutioner och, till råga på allt, global miljöskada omöjlig att ignorera. Allt detta visar att modellen med det konsumtionsdrivna kapita­listiska samhället inte längre duger som mall för att organisera vår framtid. Nya idéer om det sociala livet är nödvändiga. Men trots all tillgång vi nu har till data och information, trots ny teknologi, har inte samhällsvetenskaperna kunnat besvara utmaningen. I stället för att komma med nya teorier som underlättar övergripande förståelse av den sociala världen, fokuserar dagens samhällsforskning på allt mindre "luckor i kunskapen", samtidigt som den gärna åberopar de stora idéerna av Foucault, Marx eller Merleau-Ponty...
