Abstract

Nutrition labelling reading strategies: a semiotic analysis of nutritional rules representations This research identifies eight types of readers of nutritional information available on food product labeling on packaging. A qualitative study is carried out on 20 consumers and a semiotic analysis of their discourse is conduced. The results show that readers vary according to their representations of the nutritional rules and the way they read this information. Finally, implications for brand nutritional labeling strategies are presented and detailed through practical examples.
