Abstract

This contribution tracks the evolution of US trade hegemony since the end of WWII. It points to the decline from benevolent "leadership" to more offensive hegemony against trade rivals, Europe, Japan and, nowadays, China. The Trump administration's trade policy only accentuates and strengthens this trend.
