Abstract

Issues du socialisme utopiste du dix-neuvième siècle, les coopératives ont constitué le modèle dominant dans le commerce en France jusqu'à la moitié du vingtième siècle, avant de péricliter avec l'avènement des commerces de grandes surfaces. Or, ce mouvement précurseur de la distribution moderne et de l'économie sociale et solidaire connaît aujourd'hui une nouvelle dynamique et semble répondre à de nombreuses attentes sociétales en termes de proximité, de solidarité, de démocratie et d'économie durable. En caractérisant les structures économiques des coopératives actuelles et en mettant en lumière la richesse et la variété d'une dynamique marquée, entre autres, par l'attachement des salariés, la création de nouvelles formes coopératives et de nouvelles entreprises, les contributions rassemblées dans ce volume rendent visible et vivante la différence coopérative face au modèle libéral dominant qui tend paradoxalement à reprendre les valeurs coopératives à son compte.
