Abstract

L'Algérie doit faire face à la rareté de la ressource en eau, gérer la demande devient alors un challenge. En ce sens, la connaissance des déterminants de cette demande permettra d'initier des politiques efficientes. C'est pour cette raison que nous estimons la fonction de demande en eau potable dans l'une des ses wilayas. Pour atteindre notre objectif, nous avons fait appel à des estimations avec données de panel sur 52 communes et sur une période de 13 ans. Cette estimation nous renseigne que les abonnés algériens sont peu sensibles aux variations des prix. L'élasticité prix estimée avec la méthode des variables instrumentales fournit une valeur de -0,14. Autrement dit, une augmentation des prix de 10 % provoque une réduction de la consommation de 1,4 %.
