Abstract

L'auteur propose une synthèse de l'article de Paul A. Kirschner et Pedro De Bruyckere, « The Myths of the Digital Native and the Multitasker » (Teaching and Teacher Education, 2017). Les digital natives sont supposés être parfaitement à l'aise dans le monde numérique, qu'ils sauraient utiliser à leur profit. Une étude contredit ce cliché : cette génération ne tire pas mieux parti que ses aînés du numérique quand il s'agit de s'instruire. De plus, la capacité au mode « multitâche » prêtée à ces jeunes serait un leurre, puisque le multitâche au sens propre est possible pour un processeur informatique, mais pas pour le cerveau humain. Le prétendu multitasking nuit en réalité fortement à la concentration. Vouloir réformer l'éducation sur ces principes erronés, comme certains le proposent, est donc dangereux.
