Abstract

La fin de l'étalon-or fut une mauvaise nouvelle pour les consommateurs. Pour l'économiste S. Ammous, la cryptomonnaie pourrait combler ce vide. L'auteur propose une courte synthèse de son ouvrage "The Bitcoin Standard". L'or, grâce à sa rareté relative, a longtemps été la garantie des monnaies frappées par les Etats, qui ne pouvaient donc pas s'endetter très au-delà de leurs richesses réelles. Avec la fin de cette garantie au moment de la Première Guerre mondiale, les Etats ont pu commencer à vivre au-dessus de leurs moyens, avec pour conséquence un endettement important et une augmentation des impôts. Pour résoudre ce problème, l'économiste Saifedean Ammous propose de créer un « étalon bitcoin », car cette monnaie présente des caractéristiques similaires à l'or, surtout par sa rareté et sa difficulté d'extraction.
