Abstract

This article describes the upset of the music industry after 1999, in part under the influence of increasingly efficient digital technologies allowing for the copy and sharing of music files. Then the author analyses the value proposition of streaming services such as Spotify, as well as their influence on consumer welfare and that of artists. He then concludes on the overall positive effect of this new model.
