Abstract

The article synthetically describes the gradual introduction from 1968 till 1998 of devices for theatre education in French schools on a nationwide scale. They have been numerous and have succeeded one another, which shows a State policy not yet really established and subject to many debates, all the more so as several ministries with different issues are implied. The balance sheet shows a structure that becomes more complex over time but that still only affects a small number of pupils. Many questions remain to be solved. The one of the gap between very ambitious goals and limited budgetary means remains recurrent. The plurality of the stakes, temporalities and status of the staff is also not the least of the difficulties.
