Abstract

The aims of this research is to highlight similarities and differences as well as pros and cons of face-to-face and online weight loss support communities. Thus, opinions from nutrition experts and online communities' users are gathered. Results show that these two types of communities are similar (shared goal, mutual support, immediacy) but also different (relationship closeness, ease of expression, degree of involvement). Positive and negative effects are emphasized in a general path (support, accessibility, involvement) and then applied to eating behaviors (food diversification, restrained choices).
