«En prendre pour 25 ans». Les classes populaires et le crédit immobilier

Abstract

L'article analyse le rapport des classes populaires au crédit immobilier, dans un contexte où les dispositifs de soutien à la propriété pour les ménages modestes se multiplient. Combinant ethnographie et statistiques, l'article montre que, si les classes populaires expriment en entretien davantage de difficultés à maîtriser leurs prêts que les autres catégories sociales, ce n'est pas seulement en raison de leur moindre acculturation au système bancaire, mais aussi de la complexité structurelle plus grande de leurs plans d'endettement. Leurs prêts sont plus variés, plus nombreux et plus longs. Dans le même temps, la complexité des dispositifs d'aides renforce leur dépendance au guichet des banques et leur sentiment de dépossession.
