Abstract

The PTCE as a specific form of clustering : Organisational and governance innovationsDuring the last few years, regional economic cooperation clusters ( pôles territoriaux de coopé-ration économique, PTCEs ) have emerged on the initiative of social and solidarity economy (SSE) enterprises and networks with funding and support in kind from national and regional public bodies. Should they be seen as a form of clustering similar to localised systems of production and innovation that are well established in different industrial sectors ? Can a direct connection with the SSE be confirmed ? A comparative study of eight PTCEs has enabled identifying two network configurations and highlighting the distinctive properties of their form of governance.Examining the features of governance in more depth, the article shows there are three dimensions partnership-based, hybrid and localised – and then explores the institutional structures.
