Les Communs numériques sont-ils condamnés à devenir des "Communs du Capital" ?

Abstract

La dynamique du logiciel libre existe depuis plus de 20 ans et elle paraît offrir un exemple significatif de durabilité pour une alternative qui a su trouver des modes de fonctionnement capables de pérenniser ses principes et ses réalisations . Pour autant, ces réussites ne doivent pas dissimuler d'autres analyses insistant sur les risques liés au rapprochement de plus en plus étroit entre de grandes firmes internationales et les Communs numériques. En témoignent de spectaculaires mutations intervenues récemment, comme le rachat de la plateformes GitHub par Microsoft en juin 2018 ou celui de RedHat, société leader dans l'Open Source, par IBM. Si l'on peut voir ces acquisitions comme une confirmation de la robustesse du modèle économique des Communs numériques, il est aussi possible d'y déceler un phénomène d'absorption progressive d'un mouvement qui mettait pourtant à l'origine l'accent sur des objectifs de transformation sociale et d'émancipation . L'intégration de plus en plus étroite dans la stratégie des acteurs lucratifs peut faire craindre une transformation graduelle des Communs numériques en des « Communs du Capital », vidés de leur portée initiale.
