Entre tradition et modernité à Dubaï (EAU) : métropole urbaine et destination touristique

Abstract

La ville de Dubaï, capitale de l'Emirat de Dubaï, deuxième des sept Emirats Arabes Unis (EAU) par sa taille et sa population, est située entre le golfe Persique et le golfe d'Oman. Dans cette région du Moyen-Orient, les projets architecturaux les plus démesurés répondent depuis plusieurs années aux projets les plus surprenants. Ce contraste entre tradition et modernité trouve pleinement son expression architecturale. Le développement du tourisme instaure de nouvelles références. Dubaï cherche à prendre de l'espace sur la mer. En quoi le modèle de développement de ce petit territoire permet-il d'approcher une forme d'intelligence urbaine ? On est confronté à un territoire soumis à la concurrence qui tisse de nouvelles relations avec le monde extérieur. Plusieurs entretiens menés auprès de différents architectes et ingénieurs ont été menés en 2014 qui ont révélé un espace urbain marqué d'une nouvelle identité. Lors d'un prochain séjour en février 2019, ils feront l'objet d'une seconde phase réflexive de notre projet de recherche. Dubaï « à l'épreuve de l'intelligence » ne s'affranchit-elle pas de sa tradition au nom d'une démesure touristique. Les choix opérés dépendent largement de la stabilité régionale liée à une demande désormais potentiellement mondiale.
