Abstract

L'industrie européenne des aliments composés a connu un développement considérable au cours des trente dernières années et constitue le débouché principal pour les grandes cultures (céréales, protéagineux...). Pour assurer la couverture des besoins nutritionnels des animaux, cette industrie doit utiliser des tonnages très importants de matières riches en protéines (MRP), qui sont essentiellement importées sous forme de tourteaux de soja. Parmi les principales ressources dont dispose l'Union européenne (UE) figurent les farines animales utilisées principalement dans les aliments pour volaille. Après avoir présenté la structure de ces marchés, les auteurs analysent les impacts de la crise de l'ESB (Encéphalopathie spongiforme bovine) sur les consommations européennes des diverses MRP et l'évolution de l'équilibre des marchés des viandes dans l'UE.
