Abstract

Renewable energy sources have a key role in the energy mix because of their impact on Greenhouse Gases emissions, national energy security, among others. In this context, this paper examines comparatively, under a systemic and multidimensional approach, the policies that have introduced renewable energy in the electric power generation in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. The results show that Argentina has had a low performance in these policies in comparison to Brazil and Uruguay, due to failures in the promotion mechanisms and institutional designs.
