Catholicisme et politique dans l'Ouest rural : changement et permanences

Abstract

La commune de Limerzel est située dans le département du Morbihan, entre Vannes et Redon, et compte 1200 habitants actuellement. Ce lieu d'observation a été choisi notamment après examen des cartes religieuses, scolaires et politiques de l'Ouest de la France (régions de Bretagne, Pays-de-la-Loire et Basse-Normandie) où certaines zones présentaient des taux très élevés à la fois de pratique dominicale, de fréquentation de l'école catholique et de vote pour la droite ou le centre (et inversement), dans la zone Redon-Vannes-Ploërmel, au cœur de laquelle se trouve Limerzel. C'est dire que cette commune est tenue pour représentative d'une situation typique de l'ouest rural (et petites villes) où les clivages politiques, scolaires et religieux ont été particulièrement vifs et confondus.
