Abstract

En 1934, le Glass Steagall Act interdit aux banquiers d'affaires américains d'intervenir auprès des dirigeants des entreprises qu'ils financent. Marvin Bower, un lawyer qui a rejoint le cabinet d'audit de James O'McKinsey, saisit cette opportunité pour inventer une industrie : McKinsey & Co. va devenir le premier cabinet de conseil en stratégie qui, à la différence du conseil en management, s'adresse plus particulièrement aux directions générales des entreprises clientes. Quinze ans plus tard, Marvin Bower prend une autre décision capitale, recruter les consultants parmi l'élite du Master of Business Administration (MBA) de la Harvard Business School.
