Abstract

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems has becomes one of the major agents of information technologies that can change business dynamics. Companies' survival and competitiveness rest on its contribution to the supply chain strength and connectivity to its partners, mainly Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). This paper provides a theoretical contribution to explore ERPs in SMEs, and investigates the challenges and opportunities faced by SMEs in the adoption of ERP system to gain competitive advantages. Results may assist SMEs in automating and integrating corporate cross-functions such as material, human resources and financial resources management. We also highlight the needs for further research addressing the uniqueness of this market segment.
