Abstract

Les économies éprouvent des transformations perpétuelles. À l'heure de la mondialisation, où va l'économie ? Où ne doit-elle pas aller ?Dix ans après la crise de 2008, l'auteur constate que celle-ci a été l'illustration du désaveu majeur de l'idée que « la connaissance en économie procède de façon linéaire et qu'il existe des recettes universelles ». Il montre que l'étude des controverses qui animent la macroéconomie depuis un siècle permet d'appréhender les grands thèmes du débat actuel, notamment en Europe. L'histoire de la pensée, Francesco Saraceno en est convaincu, constitue un guide puissant pour éclairer les défis des sociétés contemporaines.Adoptant une perspective historique, l'ouvrage expose de façon rigoureuse mais non technique le « combat des idées » : des écoles néoclassique et keynésienne jusqu'aux événements récents, il retrace le développement de la macroéconomie autour du rôle respectif des marchés et des gouvernements dans la régulation de l'économie.Épreuve de vérité : pour ancrer cette démonstration dans l'actualité, le récit sur l'alternance des paradigmes dominants est illustré par des « focus » qui lient l'histoire des idées à des faits ou des discussions de politique économique contemporains.
