Penser l'acceptabilité sociale : au-delà des intérêts, les valeurs

Abstract

L'acceptabilité sociale traduit un jugement collectif à propos d'une politique ou d'un projet, dont il s'agit de comprendre les fondements et les facteurs d'influence. Si les préférences individuelles peuvent jouer un rôle dans la formation de ce jugement collectif, l'acceptabilité sociale est davantage une question de valeurs et de croyances partagées. L'acceptabilité sociale réfère à une évaluation collective plutôt qu'à des positionnements individuels, au sens où le jugement d'acceptabilité participe des dynamiques sociales susceptibles de le forger et de le transformer. Par ailleurs, ce jugement suppose un élément de comparaison entre le projet proposé et ses alternatives, d'où la définition suivante de l'acceptabilité sociale : « Assentiment de la population à un projet ou à une décision résultant du jugement collectif que ce projet ou cette décision est supérieur aux alternatives connues, incluant le statu quo ».
