Abstract

Les produits nouveaux hybrides remettent en question la catégorisation directe basée sur les concepts de produits existants. Le design semble être un levier important pour inférer les usages et identifier les critères d'évaluation des produits. L'objectif est de comprendre comment les consommateurs mobilisent le design pour donner sens et catégoriser les produits nouveaux hybrides. L'étude empirique porte sur une boisson récemment lancée, le vin mélangé « Ice Tropez ». Les résultats montrent bien son caractère ambigu et multi-catégorisable. La forme originale, prise isolément, ne permet pas d'affecter spécifiquement Ice Tropez à l'une ou l'autre des catégories d'origine mais le situe dans un « ailleurs » éloigné. La couleur, permet quant à elle de le rapprocher de l'univers des boissons sans alcool. Des implications managériales de ces résultats sont enfin proposées.
