Abstract

Local authorities are more and more involved in French transport infrastructure spending. In return, they expect economic benefits from the construction. Based on the High Speed Rail Road "Sud Europe Atlantique" case, connecting Tours to Bordeaux, we study the French regional distribution of subcontracting and supplies amount, and we suggest an analysis grid to identify its determinants. First, we underline the effect of structural characteristics of French regions on this distribution through correlation between, on the one hand, economy size and sectorial specialization and, on the other, distribution amount. Second, we show that transaction costs and specific competencies searched by the constructor are another explanation of the French regional distribution of subcontracting and supplies amount. Finally, we intend to discuss the strategies that territories could implement to benefit from those constructions, considering their economic characteristics.
