Abstract

By providing a mechanism of governance arising from the original Utopian socialist thinking, worker cooperative is traditionally presented as the mean to reduce information asymetries between members of the organization. Therefore, worker cooperative should provide a suitable context to social entrepreneur, who tries to ensure the decision-making power of the company employees. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether this goal of social governance is always performed or if it is possible to observe deviant practices. In this case, our qualitative study shows possible paradoxical effects. Following a critical approach, it is possible to observe that worker cooperative could be use as a domination tool, the opposite of the original intentions. It should be noted that any organizational deviation is more attributable to the governance mode than actors themselves. Finally, it is suggested to consider an improvement of this mode of cooperative governance.
