Abstract

The wide-scale entrance of women onto the job market and the increasing number of dual-career couples have revived interest in actions that companies can take in favour of reconciling aspects of professional and personal life. Given that the economic and social impact of measures undertaken for conciliation is not certain, the aim of the present study is to understand better the perceptions of employees on projects to aid this conciliation. A qualitative and quantitative survey was done in a French shopping centre having nearly 650 employees in order to evaluate their level of adherence to a project of joint financing of a associative day-care service and to analyse the conditions underlying the success of a service favouring conciliation. The results show that prior to setting up such a project, it is pertinent to encourage the development of management practices that respect personal constraints.
