Abstract

Que nous enseignent les études de consommateurs sur la capacité du commerce équitable à être un outil de développement ? Dans une première partie, il ressort des principaux résultats des études récentes que l'achat engagé ou la consommation responsable englobant les achats équitables correspond à une tendance de fond. Cependant, elle demeure cantonnée à un marché de niche. Pour autant, les consommateurs dans leur majorité se disent prêts à s'engager en faveur d'achat citoyen s'ils ont l'assurance des impacts de leur effort financier, s'ils peuvent être confiants dans la qualité sociale et environnementale des produits et enfin si l'engagement s'ancre dans un espace précis en faveur de producteurs ou salariés que ce soit ici et/ou là bas. Au vu de ces analyses, l'achat équitable peut être moteur du développement économique à la condition de positionner clairement et légitimement les produits sur ces différents critères.
