Abstract

La légitimité d'une innovation dans un champ organisationnel suppose l'existence de normes institutionnelles adaptées à l'objet central du champ (Suchman 1995). Or, dans le champ du design industriel français, force est de remarquer la présence de normes culturelles, alors que le design concerne la sphère économique et industrielle. Est-ce paradoxal ? Cet article cherche alors à comprendre comment les institutions, considérées comme les sources des normes institutionnelles (Scott, 2001), soutiennent l'innovation industrielle par la culture. Ainsi, à partir d'une méthode qualitative (25 entretiens d'experts français en design industriel), nous proposons une explication à l'importance de la culture dans le design industriel. Nous mettons ensuite en évidence le rôle des institutions dans le soutien à l'innovation industrielle à travers différentes actions référençant des normes culturelles.
