Quelle diversité face à Hollywood ?

Abstract

Hollywood. Est-il un mot qui soit plus ambivalent, à la fois merveilleux et effroyable ? Machine à fabriquer du rêve, et rouleau compresseur qui envahit les écrans du monde entier en réduisant à néant les cinématographies locales. Seulement aujourd'hui, pour "le monde de la cinéphilie", le côté sombre l'a emporté, au point que l'Hollywood du rêve est relégué à une époque antérieure et révolue, et que l'Hollywood actuel n'est plus que ce rouleau compresseur néfaste, qu'il s'agit d'arrêter... Peut-on dès lors résister, ou faire concurrence, à Hollywood ? La question n'est pas simple. Parce qu'il y a des raisons structurelles à sa suprématie, mais aussi parce que derrière cette question se pose celle des objectifs à défendre. Résister à Hollywood, mais pourquoi ? Promouvoir la diversité culturelle, mais qu'est-ce que cela signifie ? A la faveur d'un contexte fertile – la construction européenne, les nouvelles technologies, l'embellie du cinéma français, la constitution d'une major européenne au tour de Canal + et Universal – nous avons essayé de reposer la question de la résistance à la suprématie hollywoodienne, sans aucun parti pris, et en donnant la parole à des points de vue les plus divers : chercheurs et praticiens, français et étrangers. Dans les rapports entre Hollywood et les autres cinématographies, quelle est la situation, quels sont les problèmes, et quoi faire pour y remédier ?
