Les entreprises internationales doivent choisir entre aborder les marches internatiaux d'apres une formule standard ou adopter une approche differenciee (adaptation local) les etudes empiriques consacrees a cette question aboutissesnt souvent a des resultats contradictoiires. En pricipe l'adaptation se revele fructueuse quand la culture du pays d'origine s'oppose a celle du pays d'implantation des filliales. Dans le cas contraire, la standardisation est a priviligier.
