Obesidad y género: Enfoque de género y salud alimentaria nutricional en América Latina

Abstract

A nivel mundial, América Latina es la región en desarrollo que presenta la más alta prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad (SOFI 2019). Aun cuando este fenómeno tiene incidencia en la población en forma global, existen evidencias concretas de la existencia de una importante brecha de género dado que las mujeres son afectadas en un porcentaje significativamente mayor y creciente en comparación con los hombres. El objetivo de la presente nota de políticas es llamar la atención a la situación actual del sobrepeso y la obesidad en la región, refiriéndose a los sistemas y los entornos alimentarios donde se desempeñan mujeres y hombres, buscando además puntos de entrada desde las políticas para lograr la reducción de este fenómeno con un enfoque de género.
