Inversión y progreso técnico en el sector industrial de la Comunidad de Madrid

Abstract

El presente trabajo pretende, a partir de la Encuesta Económica al Sector Industrial (EESI) elaborada por el Instituto de Estadística de la CAM, analizar el estado y la evolución de la tecnología a nivel de establecimiento en el sector industrial madrileño. En primer lugar se presenta una descripción de la evolución del conjunto de la industria madrileña en el periodo 1986-1995, durante el cual parece haberse completado un ciclo industrial completo. Aprovechando la ventaja de disponer de datos a nivel de establecimientos mostramos las diferencias tecnológicas existentes en la industria madrileña, mediante el análisis de la distribución de la productividad media del trabajo y de otras magnitudes relevantes. Encontramos que la mayor parte de estas diferencias se deben a la heterogeneidad en el interior de cada sector más que a las diferencias intersectoriales. Por último, estudiamos desde una perpectiva empírica y bajo el marco teórico de los modelos de generaciones de capital, el comportamiento de la inversión en los establecimientos industriales madrileños. De nuestro análisis se desprende que las decisiones de inversión no se producen de manera continuada a lo largo del tiempo, sino que claramente están concentradas en determinados momentos, invirtiendo poco durante periodos relativamente prolongados. Observamos evidencia parcial de progreso técnico incorporado en la nueva inversión.
