Gasto catastrófico en salud de los adultos mayores en Costa Rica

Abstract

La población adulta mayor en Costa Rica ha aumentado durante los últimos años. En el año 2000, el 5,6% de la población de Costa Rica tenía 65 años o más, mientras que en el año 2011 este grupo representó el 7,3%. Además en el año 1950 de cada 100 mujeres que cumplían 65 años, 28 sobrevivían hasta los 85 años, y de cada 100 hombres, sobrevivían 24. En tanto que en el año 1980 de cada 100 mujeres que cumplían 65 años, 45 llegaban a cumplir 85 años, mientras que para el caso de los hombres 35 de cada 100. Hoy en día de cada cien mujeres de 65 años, 56 pueden esperar vivir hasta los 85 años de edad, y 43 de cada 100 hombres.
