Determinants and Impact of Training in Japanese Firms: An empirical analysis based on the Basic Survey of Human Resources Development (Japanese)

Abstract

Using establishment-level data from the Basic Survey of Human Resources Development for 2006, we estimate both the determinants and the impact of training. In the probit analysis, we find that larger firms /establishments and more productive firms have a higher probability of providing training, even when controlling for industry dummies. Furthermore, we find that on-the-job training (OJT) with respect to full-time workers has a positive influence on the labor productivity of establishment.
