Hoe duurzaam is duurzaam transport?

Abstract

Extra inspanningen om het brandstofgebruik in auto’s en vrachtwagens te verminderen in de EU leveren momenteel wellicht geen bijdrage tot het verminderen van de uitstoot van broeikasgassen in de wereld. Deze inspanningen zijn niet effectief inzake klimaatbeleid en zijn heel duur. Dit is het resultaat van twee handicaps: het ontbreken van een wereldklimaatakkoord en het bestaan van een grote rente bij de verkoop van de bestaande oliereserves. Verminderen van oliegebruik is duur in de transportsector omdat olie daar driemaal meer kost dan in andere sectoren. Het is tijd om zich te concentreren op de transportproblemen die we wel kunnen aanpakken: files, lokale luchtverontreiniging en ongevallen.
