Abstract

Irrespective of special incentives offered by the state, women enterprises encounter several problems. Often, women are merely fronts for men to obtain concessional credit, subsidies, and other incentives offered for women enterprises. The main objective of this study is to identify some of the key familial, social, and psychological factors that promote / inhibit entrepreneurship among women in Kerala. It is hoped that the identification of such factors will assist in the design of EDP programmes and enable planning agencies at the State and local levels to design schemes to overcome these constraints. As the issues are complex and only a few studies exist on this topic, the present exercise constitutes an exploratory investigation [Discussion Paper 53].
