Abstract

In convening the third session of the World Urban Forum in Vancouver, the United Nations Human Settlements Program has asked us to focus our attention on the Sustainable City and consider critical challenges across three sub-themes: • Urban Growth And Environment• Partnership And Finance• Social Inclusion And Cohesion. The key objective of this Forum is to improve understanding and agreement on ways forward to ensuring sustainable development in cities worldwide, in rich and in poor countries. The intention is to turn ideas into action by bringing together the collective knowledge, expertise and experience of civil society and local, regional and national governments in a global forum to address these core challenges and explore practical solutions.
