Configuración territorial de las provincias de Colombia: ruralidad y redes

Abstract

Los territorios rurales cubren la mayor parte de la superficie terrestre, y están sujetos a una intensa influencia de las ciudades y los territorios urbanos, donde se concentra una alta demanda por los recursos naturales necesarios para la vida humana. Este trabajo explora las relaciones de vecindad y las conexiones de los territorios provinciales de Colombia según su grado de ruralidad/urbanización. Las provincias (141) constituyen una unidad territorial de escala intermedia que captura dinámicas más agregadas que los municipios (más de mil) y muestra patrones más diversos y diferenciados que las divisiones departamentales (32). A partir del Índice Demográfico de Urbanización (IDU), y según los tiempos de viaje en automóvil hasta las cabeceras de las provincias más urbanas, se establecen ocho categorías de provincias, y se evidencian conexiones y desconexiones territoriales, y las redes entre las provincias.
