Efectos de los choques petroleros sobre las economías de Centroamérica y la República Dominicana

Abstract

RESUMENEn este documento se exploran los efectos de los recientes choques petroleros sobre las economías de Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras. Nicaragua y la República Dominicana. Los resultados generales son los siguientes. En primer lugar, la demanda de hidrocarburos respondió elásticamente al nivel de actividad económica y fue insensible a su precio relativo. En segundo, el análisis estadístico reveló que los choques afectaron negativamente a la economía e incrementaron otros precios. Y en tercer lugar, tras los aumentos en los precios del petróleo se implantaron, típicamente, políticas monetarias restrictivas.
