Abstract

La Encuesta sobre Clases Sociales y Comportamiento Reproductivo en Costa Rica es parte del proyecto sobre "Estrategias de Desarrollo y Politicas de Poblacion en America Latina" que realiza el Sector Politicas de Poblacion de CELADE en Brasil, Cuba, Costa Rica y Chile. Previo una descripcion de la evolucion de las tasas de fecundidad y las clases sociales en el pais, se discuten los objetivos e hipotesis principales de la encuesta, la definicion y operacionalizacion de las variables consideradas y las etapas del trabajo de campo del estudio. El analisis exhaustivo de los principales hallazgos de la encuesta en terminos de la composicion y caracteristicas demograficas, economicas, sociales y culturales de las clases, concluye con la proposicion de un modelo explicativo de la dinamica demografica en donde el factor determinante es la clase social
