Observatorio Demográfico de América Latina y el Caribe 2011: Envejecimiento poblacional = Demographic Observatory of Latin America and the Caribbean 2011: Population ageing

Abstract

En este número del Observatorio demográfico se presentan indicadores seleccionados desde una perspectiva demográfica del proceso de envejecimiento de la población, obtenidos a partir de las estimaciones y proyecciones nacionales de la población, de los 20 países de América Latina, para el período 1950-2100. Las cifras contenidas en esta publicación constituyen una ampliación de las presentadas en el Observatorio demográfico núm. 11 de abril de 2011. Estas estimaciones y proyecciones corresponden a un período más largo (de 1950 a 2100) y fueron elaboradas por el CELADE-División de Población de la CEPAL sobre la base de las estimaciones realizadas de manera conjunta con los países; no incluyen aún las revisiones que se iniciaron recientemente considerando los resultados de los censos de la década de 2010. En las notas metodológicas de este Observatorio, además de una breve descripción de la metodología utilizada para las estimaciones y proyecciones aquí presentadas, se hace una relación por país de las fuentes datos consideradas. Como es habitual, se incluye un capítulo en el que se analiza el impacto de las tendencias demográficas estimadas y proyectadas en el proceso de envejecimiento de la población, como consecuencia, en cuanto al tamaño poblacional y las estructuras por edad a largo plazo, de llegar a una fecundidad por debajo del nivel de reemplazo y un descenso sostenido de la mortalidad.
