¿Qué es el capital social comunitario?

Abstract

El concepto de 'Capital social' ha suscitado gran interés entre sociólogos y teóricos del desarrollo en los últimos años. Se ha desatado, por lo demás, un intenso debate sobre una multiplicidad de temas que abarca el término y sobre su validez como teoría o paradigma. Uno de los puntos en discusión es la eventual existencia de una forma comunitaria o colectiva de capital social, más allá de su expresión en las relaciones de confianza y reciprocidad entre individuos, articulados en redes interpersonales. En este trabajo se toma posición en relación a las principales discrepancias entre especialistas sobre el concepto general de capital social y se propone la existencia de cuatro formas diferentes de capital social, una de las cuales es el capital social comunitario. Se analiza la relación entre las dinámicas propias del capital social del individuo y las de aquél que es atributo de comunidades, el cual toma la forma de una institucionalidad sociocultural con características de sistema complejo adaptativo. Se concluye con algunos comentarios sobre la posibilidad de construir capital social comunitario intencionalmente y sobre otros aspectos de una posible sinergia entre Estado y comunidad en torno a esta construcción o coproducción.
