La educación técnico-profesional en América Latina: retos y oportunidades para la igualdad de género

Abstract

La Educación Técnico-Profesional (ETP) es un tema de creciente interés en debates regionales sobre educación y desarrollo socio-económico, sin embargo se observa un escaso conocimiento de sus características y resultados, especialmente desde una perspectiva de género. En este escenario, en el presente documento se analiza la situación de la ETP en América Latina y el Caribe, poniendo de relieve las importantes diferencias y desigualdades que existen entre hombres y mujeres en su participación a esta modalidad educativa. A partir de una contextualización histórica del desarrollo de la ETP y una caracterización de su oferta bajo la identificación de tres modelos formativos predominantes en los países de la región, se evidencia una segregación de carreras entre hombres y mujeres y cómo este modelo educativo actúa como reproductor de las desigualdades de género existentes en el mercado laboral.
